The FMS technology disrupts the stratum corneum — the outermost layer of the epidermis composed of dead cells — to the depth of approximately 50 micrometers (about half the thickness of one human hair).  By way of comparison, a typical diabetes lancet penetrates to a depth of 2,400 micrometers.
